VINE and Washington County Custody
Illinois VINE is a confidential notification service for participating custody and case events. You reach it through VINELink's Illinois search. The Washington County Sheriff's Office links to VINE, so it counts as an official path to try after a Washington County arrest. The county posts no public list of live coverage. A match is helpful. A missing match cannot rule out a booking.
VINE answers a narrow question. For a participating person it may report custody status, the facility, an identifying record number, or a change such as release or transfer. It does not replace the Washington County Jail record, the arresting police report, or the court file. Nor is it the Illinois Department of Corrections search, which tracks state-prison custody after admission. Each system has its own lane.
Someone arrested in Nashville, Okawville, or Irvington might enter Washington County Jail, receive a citation and leave, transfer to another county, or move into state custody later. Each path creates different records. Use it to watch one known custody record. It is not a recent-arrests browser.
Check a Washington County Arrest
Have the full legal name ready. An age or birth date helps. Similar names are common, so compare the state and agency facts before trusting a match.
- Open VINELink and select Illinois rather than using a general web result.
- Choose the person or offender search and enter the last name plus as much supported detail as is known.
- Review all possible matches. Compare the facility, record number, and status without assuming the first result is correct.
- Open the matching record and note the status plus the time of the check.
- If no match appears, call Washington County Jail at 618-327-4800 ext. 114 and ask what staff can confirm.
- For a document, request the booking record from WCSO or the arrest report from the agency that created it.
The Washington County recent-arrests hub maps every record channel in more depth. VINELink is strongest for custody awareness. A police or sheriff record holds the details of the Washington County arrest. The Circuit Clerk or Judici shows the court side.
The state-level Illinois page shows only the starting point.
Washington Custody Result Fields
Available fields depend on the agency and record. Read every label in context. Custody status describes what the system reports at that moment, not the final result of a charge.
| Possible field | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Name and identity details | Distinguish the intended person from similar names. |
| Custody status | Shows the reported state, such as in custody or released, when supplied. |
| Facility or agency | Identifies the participating office tied to the record. |
| Record or offender ID | Helps staff locate the same entry during confirmation. |
| Event type | May identify release, transfer, or another reported change. |
| Event time | Indicates when the listed change was recorded, not always when data reached the user. |
Check with the jail whenever timing matters. A fresh arrest can still be in processing. A release can happen before an alert arrives, and a transfer may shift the source of truth to another facility. Keep the record number, but never publish private notification details or a PIN.
Register Washington Custody Alerts
Registration differs from a one-time lookup. A search shows the status visible right now. Registering asks VINE to send notice when a supported event changes. Phone, text, email, and app options may appear depending on the record, so follow only the choices VINELink displays.
- Open the verified person record and select the registration or notification option.
- Choose the event types offered for that record, such as release or transfer.
- Enter the phone number or email address that should receive the notice.
- Create or confirm a PIN if the telephone workflow asks for one. Keep it private.
- Complete the verification step and save the confirmation details.
- Update or cancel the registration through VINE when the contact method changes.
No alert should be your only safety plan. Phone numbers get entered wrong. Calls get blocked, and email can land in spam. An agency event can also reach the system late. The Illinois Attorney General describes VINE as a victim-notification service, but urgent danger belongs with 911 and safety planning with local professionals. The national VINELink registration screen is the entry point for alerts.
The VINELink registration page offers the standard sign-up route. The options attached to a specific record control which alerts you can actually select.
Confirm Washington Arrest Changes
VINELink is not a complete Washington County roster. It may miss a municipal citation, an event still processing, or a record outside a participating system. WCSO publishes no online jail roster or same-day feed. Call the jail for current county custody and use a focused FOIA request for the record. The Sheriff's office sits at 245 N. Kaskaskia Street in Nashville, with weekday hours and Saturday by appointment. Call before visiting.
Federal and immigration custody run on other tools. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers people in BOP custody and posts no inmate photos. ICE runs its own detainee locator. The U.S. Marshals Service may control a pretrial federal movement that never shows in BOP. None of these replaces a county booking check, and the BOP locator shows the separate federal search.
A federal locator result and a Washington County VINE result describe two different custody systems. That boundary matters. After release, VINE may stop answering the historical-record question. The police department holds the arrest report, WCSO holds the booking sheet, and the Circuit Clerk holds the case, while IDOC applies only after state admission. Ask the office that created the record.
Why VINE Alerts Can Lag
VINE works only as fast as the agencies feeding it. Each custody change must be sent by the participating office before the Washington County search shows anything. Intake, release, transfer acceptance, and data exchange all happen in turn, so lag is built in. A slow alert is normal. It is not evidence of a mistake. When timing matters, call the holding agency directly. Write down the time, the staff channel, the VINE status, and the record number. Then check again later. Keep the alert active while you confirm by phone. Treat the court docket, not an alert, as the place to follow the legal result.
Registration also does not store a history for the user. Save the confirmation details that manage your alert. Go back to the office holding the record when you need a formal document. WCSO keeps the jail record. A city department keeps its own report. The Circuit Clerk holds the case file, and IDOC holds state-prison data after admission. Because Washington County publishes no official roster, this source-by-source habit matters even more. The jail can speak to present county custody when staff are able to share it. VINE watches a supported change. FOIA requests a fixed record. Each channel answers one question, and a negative in one system never closes the others.
Check identity before acting on any notice. Compare the full name, custody identifier, agency, and expected state. Do not read a charge or outcome into a release alert. Release can stem from bond, a court order, completed sentence, or transfer. The alert rarely spells out the basis. A transfer out of Washington County Jail can end local custody while the case and other custody continue. Search the receiving state or federal system only when the facts support that move. A record number plus a confirmed destination makes the next lookup precise. Scattered broad searches only confuse things.
If a record looks wrong, save the displayed details and contact the agency tied to the event. VINE relays source data, so the source office is the right place to fix its custody record. Court errors go through the Circuit Clerk. Booking errors go to WCSO. Look at a private archive only after the official fact is settled. Finally, keep your contact details current for the life of the alert. A changed number or a full voicemail box can stop a notice. Dead text service can stop it too. This can happen even when the event entered VINE correctly. Use the service's own controls to revise delivery settings.
Note: VINE is a notification aid, not an emergency service, court record, universal locator, or guarantee of advance notice.
